Myanaeileen (Mya) is an excellent example of how persistence and determination can help you achieve your goals. Mya noticed a new store opened up in her neighborhood that intrigued her called, Fashion Queen Boutique. When she entered the doors for the first time, she knew it was a place she wanted to work.
The boutique, located in Renton, Washington, offers a wide selection of women and children’s clothing and has a department store like feel to it. There are areas dedicated to jewelry, children’s clothing, shoes, purses, and even hats - some of which Mya created!
Once Mya was ready for her Internship, she telephoned the owner, who asked her many questions to determine if she wanted to meet her. After speaking with Mya, she knew that she did. Mya, portfolio in hand, and full of confidence, went too met Annette who agreed to bring her on as an Intern. Mya impressed her so much during her internship that she offered her a full-time job as soon as she graduated.
Mya loves working at the boutique! She is learning a lot about the business, and she plans to open up her own specialty boutique someday. She is able to use her design skills when creating floor displays and was given a project of setting up photography shoots for an advertising campaign. Her latest project is creating a wedding gown out of paper towels, like the one she designed for the Paper Fashion show while she was in school to “pitch” it to Bounty for them to use in an advertising campaign.
Mya’s advice to students, "Keep pursuing your goals, even when problems arise, keep going for it!"
